Comments: Anthropology 155/Biology 155 requires travel from August 7-12, 2016 to southern California's Channel Islands by van and boat. Lodging will be in bunkbeds at the University of California Field Station (http://santacruz.nrs.ucsb.edu/visiting/facilities-equipment-fiel d-station). Activities on the island will include hiking and kayaking. Please attend the informational meeting for this class on Thursday, April 7, at 6:00 p.m. in Center for Advanced Technologies Room 201 or Thursday, May 19, at 6:00 p.m. in Science Community Center Room 212. There will be class meetings prior to our departure. The first meeting will be July 18 (place and time TBD). Cost: A required materials/travel fee of $480/student is due to the Business Office no later than Wednesday, June 22, 2016 in addition to registration fees for both courses (Biology 155 and Anthropology 155). The materials/travel fee includes transportation by van and boat, lodging, meals and class activities (museum visit, kayaking, etc.). More details provided at the informational meetings. ANTHR 155-ANTHROPOLOGICAL FIELD STUDIES OF
CHANNEL ISLANDS 1 UNITS

Application of principles of anthropology through
extended field studies on the Channel Islands of
California. Skills developed in anthropological
field studies, archaeological artifact and site
identification. Requires ability to work and
study under rigorous conditions. Field trips are
required. Not repeatable. (A-F or P/NP) Transfer:
(CSU)

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon satisfactory completion of this course, the
student should be prepared to:

1. Describe the cultural evolution of the
California Channel Islands based on
archaeological and ethnographic
evidence.

2. Explain contemporary issues in the context of
anthropological concepts.
